Liver Detoxification

Most people only have ambiguous ideas regarding liver. That's why this organ is often neglected. Once a person experience an illness related to their liver, that's the only time they understand how important it is for the body. You don't want to end up with the same situation right? There is a wide variety of liver detox diet plans publicized in magazines, on the Internet, and on television. Some take up to four weeks, and are ruled out as too extreme by many nutritionists. There are also milder, 24- to 72-hour detox diets combining fasting and drinking nothing but purified water for the first 24 hours.

While the liver normally is capable of processing all these harmful toxins, it also has a saturation point that can be reached when a person doesn't regulate his intake and consumption of toxic-laden food or substances. In this case, the liver may slow down or even cease functioning altogether-and this may create a host of new health problems that may be more difficult to cure.

The goal of most liver detoxification methods is to deliver essential nutrients and antioxidants directly to the liver. If your liver is deficient in any of these antioxidants, which is very common due to the average American's daily diet, its ability to fully remove absorbed toxins is reduced. Beta carotene, selenium, and vitamins C and E are all antioxidants which are known to have liver detoxifying properties.

A liver detox diet involves a person restricting oneself to organic foods such as raw vegetables, fruits and whole grains. The 2 ingredients that the liver needs in order to function properly are water and glucose. These ingredients aid the body's system to get rid of accumulated toxins. So, drinking a lot of water helps as it helps to flush toxins out of your system. A person on a liver detox diet must avoid foods that are not liver friendly such as fried and processed foods, sugar, coffee and saturated fats.

Fruits are most beneficial when eaten half hour before other food. They pass through the stomach within 20 to 30 minutes to release nutrients in the intestines. If you eat them with other foods, especially proteins, or after the meal, they will stay longer in the stomach and give you the gas.

Our liver detox diet plan should contain the herb milk thistle. This herb is magnificent and it gives new energy to our liver. It has an ingredient which is named Silymarin and it is amazing for the liver.

It is important to eat row vegetables with every meal. They contain a lot of fiber, water, and enzymes. Enzymes stored in the vegetables help the body to digest nutrients. Remember, cooking the vegetables destroys much needed enzymes.

Avoid processed foods during your liver detox, as well as all drinks that are seeped in fat or sugar. Toxins like caffeine, nicotine, alcohol, and illegal drugs must be shunned during a liver detox diet. Remember, you're trying to filter and cleanse your liver, help it to free itself from the toxic substances that overwhelm it so that it can perform at its maximum effectiveness.

Juice or water fasting will deprive you from having proteins which are essential for the liver. It might be counter productive if you don't include some protein on your diet. You must also drink plenty of water because eating too much fresh fruits and vegetables will increase your level of fiber, and it might make you constipated. Some people prefer starting their diet by liquid fasting then gradually start eating a well balanced liver detox diet after two days.

All in all, a complete liver detoxification will help to restore functionality to the liver as well as to the rest of the body. All of the body's organs are vitally important to maintaining a healthy body, but cleansing your liver will help the most! If you're experiencing poor health, aching body, tired most of the time, go on a liver detox diet.
