Pros and Cons of Artificial Nails

By Prenoy Yonerp at 2010-12-31 02:56:44
When you think of artificial nails, it is likely that you think of them as a fairly recent invention. With society as obsessed as it is about the way that it looks, it is not hard to see why many people would assume that artificial nails were created within the last decade. However, surprisingly they have been around for centuries and the meaning behind them has changed dramatically as time has gone by.

Artificial nails evolved as time went on and acrylic materials were used to create more modern designs. It was actually dental professionals who discovered acrylic nails after they mixed Polymers and Monomers together to create a hard material to place onto teeth. They discovered that the acrylic material could be used to harden and protect nails as well as teeth and that is how true artificial nails were discovered.

There are a few different types of artificial nails to choose from. Some people prefer one over the other because of the kind of activities they are involved in. For example someone who plays sports, might opt for a stronger artificial nail. The first type is called a sculptured nail.Acrylic is the strongest type of artificial nail to get and it can last the longest.Fibreglass is natural looking and strong.

If you tend to suffer from constant cracks or breaks in your nails, investing in artificial nails could be an option to try. You can get them whenever you want but should make sure you take the necessary precautions.I will share with you some tips to have artificial nails at home with minimum efforts and complications.

Your first step will be to select a complete nail enhancement kit. Inside your kit, you will find the artificial nails, an adhesive and a mini-scissor.cleanse your nail to remove any dust or particles that will deform your applications and that will weaken the longevity of your adhesive.

File and shape your nails. Select carefully a nail for each of your fingers and then file the edges if necessary to have a perfect result. Then you use the adhesive on your natural nail to match the surface of your new nails, in this step, you really need to spread a really thin layer of adhesive. So now, you have to place the nails very close to your cuticle without touching it.Apply two layers of your nail varnish and then your topcoat to seal the whole thing.

Weddings and special occasions have increased the use of plastic nails along with nail art and even a French manicure. On these special occasions women go all out to get their nails done by professionals as they want to look their finest. However on applying acrylic nails, regular maintenance is essential so that it doesn't affect the real nails of the finger.

Since the real nail acts as a base, the artificial nail will be stuck firmly to the nail. When trying to remove the nail, avoid ripping it as it might pull out the real nail, making it a very painful experience.

Also the link which connects the acrylic nail to the real nail is sometimes toxic and could damage the real nail. If you are someone who is keen on having her nails intact and in place, you can look at other alternatives like nail polish or getting regular manicures instead of acrylic nails.

However, women have been known to also use artificial nails to cover up nail fungus infection, hence the word "artificial nail fungi". Unfortunately, this method doesn't cure, nor solves the problem, but only worsens it.

Nail fungus likes growing in dark and moist conditions. When you now go and apply artificial nails to the already infected toenail, it creates a dark and moist area - exactly what you don't want. Fungi grow in airless areas on feet that are both warm and moist and artificial nails inhibit the free flowing of air around the nail.
