How Food Affect Mood

By Prenoy Yonerp at 2011-02-17 01:57:21
What you eat does affect your mood, so you need to choose your food wisely. In other words, the kind of food you eat is instrumental in endowing in you qualities such as a sense of well being, concentration, alertness, and different energy levels.

Various foods are constantly being studied and analyzed on the physiological and psychological benefits that they offer. They are related to the mood, mental well-being and relief from the effects of everyday stress.

Any nutrition that enters our body could influence chemical balance inside neuron-systems and affecting its function. For example, by now you should understand why your vegetarian friends usually have more patience than your friends who eat red meat regularly.

Understanding the connection between food and mood can help us alter our mood by changing our diet and making different food choices.Lets look how food affect mood:

It may be fun to have a cocktail after work to forget the stress of the day. However, alcohol is a major central nervous system depressant. It can cause long-term harm to your mood and contribute to anxiety and depression. Be conscious of how often you tie one on.

Refined products such as white flour, biscuits, pastries, and sugar can elevate serotonin levels quickly, making you feel good, but this only lasts for a short period. This causes the brain to shut off the production of serotonin to allow balance to be restored.

Dopamine: This is the neurotransmitter that makes you feel like you're full of energy. Your body converts the amino acid tyrosine (found in protein) to dopamine, and you can find extra tyrosine in almonds, avocados, dairy products, and pumpkin & sesame seeds.

Vegetables and fruits colorfully arranged in a market, giving out nice smells, tempting flavors - all these have a calming effect on us. The smell and thought of flavor/taste calms us.

Fruits tend to be rich in vitamin B6 which the brain needs to make serotonin, a neurotransmitter that facilitates happy moods. They are also full of antioxidants, which protect the brain cell membranes.

The connection between food and mood is not black and white. Some foods are both healing and stressful. Caffeine and chocolate provide initial exhilaration. Caffeine improves focus and stimulates motivation. Pleasant, until the crash that follows. Chocolate also gives us mixed results.

Milk contains tryptophan, which can make one sleepy after drinking it. If you want to stay alert, a big glass of milk at lunch may not do the trick.

Junk food. These types of foods, like soft drinks, potato chips, processed food and some diet products, contain high levels of compounds that can contribute to depression, including aspartame and MSG. Be conscious of how often you bury your face in a bag of Doritos, especially if you're in a bad mood to start.

High fructose syrup could neutralize all the serotonin, so while fruit salad should make us relaxed, adding too much syrup or unhealthy dressing is not recommended.

The red meat lovers on the contrary, consumed much unsaturated fats. These unhealthy fats will stimulate production of dopamine-norepinephrine. Not only that, modern food brought much more danger to our mood.

In the case of a daily stress, the person shall not eat too much sugary foods, fats, fried foods, fatty meats, alcohol, coffee and black tea. Sugar can give effects like drowsiness and poor digestion. The fat in excess will also hamper the digestion.

Geary reports that "it is found that eating regular meals and snacks, not missing breakfast and being prepared by carrying snacks with you, were the best strategies for mentally health eating."

The human microbiome, or gut condition, is a network of various microorganisms that has co-advanced with people to be valuable to both an individual and the microscopic organisms. Analysts concur that an individual's one of a kind microbiome is made inside the initial 1,000 days of life and moviestarplanet, however there are things you can do to modify your gut condition for an amazing duration. Analysts suggest "fixing the food first" (as it were, what we eat) before attempting gut adjusting treatments (probiotics, prebiotics) to improve how we feel. They propose eating entire nourishments and keeping away from handled and ultra-prepared food sources that we know cause aggravation and illness.
