Melasma is a dark discoloration that appears on sun-exposed areas of the face. It is often and most commonly associated with pregnancy and is usually called Chloasma, the "mask of pregnancy".Melasma is an extremely difficult skin condition to treat. The symptoms are actually and irregular brown spots that are generally found on the faces of women.

It is the result of hyperactivity of the melanocytes, the pigment producing cells of the skin. While immediate melasma causes are not known, it has been directly connected both to hormonal changes and to sun exposure.

Turmeric is one of them. Just mix a pinch of turmeric powder with fresh cream and apply it as a face mask.Lemon juice with honey can be applied to face. When done regularly this treatment works wonders for melasma pigmentation removal.

Grapefruit Seed extract though a natural ingredient, it is also found as pills and capsules.It has great antibacterial, antiviral and ant-fungal properties. It has shown remarkable effect in treating melasma.

Another natural ingredient is orange juice. Natural orange juice is great for topical application. Let it stay on the affected skin for 10- 15 minutes and splash clod water to clean up.

Take some aloe vera leaves and extract the pulp. Apply it to your face and leave it on for 10-15 minutes. Wash off in cold water. If you cannot get aloe vera plant you can aloe vera juice available in health stores.

Regardless of the treatment method used, it will fail if sunlight is not strictly avoided. Sunscreens containing physical blockers, such as titanium dioxide and zinc oxide, are preferred over chemical blockers because of their broader protection. UV-B, UV-A, and visible light are all capable of stimulating melanogenesis.

The most complicated Melasma treatments, Microdermabrasion, laser surgery and chemical peels, may help in the treatment of Melasma but results may not be consistent. These types of procedures have the potential to cause irritation in which can sometimes worsen your skin problem.
